In all of the madness that has been going on around here lately, I knew that I had at least given mention to the little Zazu growing within, but what I didn't realize is that it's been five whole weeks since we've talked about all things pregnancy related. And I'm sure you've been dying to know what I've been eating, yes? (Crowd sighs.)
Well.
(I wasn't kidding.)
I had to promise myself that I would never again buy Oreo Cakesters, because they were gone before I realized who had eaten them all (MEEEE!) and there's really no excuse for the non-fillingest variety of calories. I cannot say I've had any wild or unusual cravings this time around, but the desire for a certain type of food? Oh yes.
Enter the sweets.
At one time or another, I have craved every kind of fruit in the most mad sort of way. Extra Cherry Fruit Coctail (along with extra sweetened pasta/pizza sauce, Froot Loops and Trix cereals, mmm) has been a staple of my diet since practically day one, and I'm ashamed to say I've even taken a dip into a can of both apple and cherry pie filling. I've done strawberries, apples, pears, nectarines, and prunes.
Prunes, my God. Do you know what kind of looks a gal can get when her husband walks into the kitchen to see her standing over a gigantic carton of prunes, tossing them back like peanut m&m's?
Then a while ago I also went through a wild crazy blueberry phase, coming home from the grocery store toting bag after bag filled with blueberry pancakes, blueberry bagels, blueberry flavored toaster strudel, blueberry syrup and cartons of blueberries, warning the entire family to STAY BACK.
Currently? Pineapple. Pineapple juice (which I do sometimes pour in a nice glass over ice, toss in a straw, imagining a little Malibu Rum to perfection,) chunk pineapple, pineapple sorbet, and best of all, Pineapple Orange Banana juice. Oh mah gawd.
Remember when, at the beginning of this pregnancy, while slain on the floor in absolute shock, I muttered the words, I'm going to try to stay on weight watchers anyway and not go crazy?
Hmmm.
At my twenty-one week doctor visit I had blown the twenty-five pound gain marker, which continues to blow my mind. And while I do struggle with the fact that my cheeks have grown chunkier and my thighs are carrying obvious signs of Pineapple Orange Banana overload, I'm not really sure what to do? Other than let my little baby keep on growing happily and start up the Weight Watchers program when all is said and done?
After our beach experience with the first of warm temperatures, I'm slightly nervous for what's to come once the weather really kicks up. Oh how I'd forgotten what pregnant summers are like. It was just about eighty degrees, and I was hoooooooot. Adding insult to injury, up until yesterday I owned not a single pair of stretchy comfy shorts to slug around the house in, which we know is a must for every at-home mom, yes? So with KJ at school, Jack and I decided to take a run to Walmart for some positively incredible, absolutely stylish for any phase of pregnancy, Men's Oversized Hanes Cotton Shorts at four bucks a pair. (Look out Vanity Fair, here I come.)
And just to be sure that elastic would stretch alllll the way around my big baby belly, I headed to the fitting room with a cart full of toddler and his various entertainment of toys and snacks, diaper bag, window fan, thirty pound bag of weed-n-feed, shorts in varied sizes, and two packs of light bulbs. I asked the woman at the desk if it would be okay if I just took the entire cart into the fitting room with me so as not to unload half of it, and she immediately began rummaging through my cart for anything I might like to shove in all that spare room I've got going in my pants pockets.
She came up? With my light bulbs.
After receiving clearance to move forward with the weed-n-feed and box fan, I huffed and puffed to get my denim capris off over my shoes so as not to huff and puff getting my shoes off, tried on the shorts, entertained the kid, convinced the kid to stay in the cart, huffed and puffed through getting my pants back on over my shoes, made a mental note about the possible joys of FLIP FLOPS, and made my way back to claim my light bulbs.
Being friendly, I made a little joke to the fitting room watchman lady about being about six months pregnant with my third child, and having no time to shoplift. "WELL YOU NEVER KNOW," she said sternly, "WITH THE ECONOMY THE WAY IT IS!"
Walking away I supposed that the state of the economy could force me to shoplift light bulbs at six months pregnant, forcing my two sons into eighty hours a week of daycare while their father worked and I birthed their baby sister in the confines of an ironically fairly darkened prison cell. Right?
Thankfully, the state of the economy has not prevented me from picking up a little pink to hang in the closet from clearance racks, yard sales and from a stashed-in-the-back giant blue cart of Carter's fleece sleepers at Sam's Club for three! bucks! apiece!
People, there is PINK in my closet! Well, actually it is Jackson's closet and he would like to know exactly what day I plan on stuffing him into all of this tiny frilly girly-wear so that he can stow away with Daddy to work that morning.
But leave him the dolly. He sort of doesn't mind having her around.

PINK!
Also, you look adorable.

I kept thinking the pink would become nauseating. Now with a nearly 2 year old, I still love to look at the closet full of pink. It doesn't get old.
